Hi, I’m Oisin McGarry, a Senior Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) Specialist at Softworks. I have 22 years of SEO experience, and I specialize in Technical SEO. Technical SEO is the foundation of SEO and makes up at least 60% of it. Technical SEO means ensuring the website’s code, structure, and content are easy for Google and AI bots to crawl, render and navigate. I use tools like Ahrefs, Google PageSpeed Insights, and Google Search Console to improve things like website page speed. Luckily, our site is very fast, but you can always improve!
Content is an important part of SEO, and Google loves it. So we ensure we have high-quality, optimised content on our site.
Another important aspect of SEO is Link Building, so we outsource this to experts in the field, and I ask them to get specific kinds of links, which then contribute to our Domain Authority score. Ahrefs assigns a Domain Authority score to websites based on how powerful they are. The higher this score is, and the more backlinks you have, the more powerful your website is, so this helps a lot.
A lot of SEO work is solo, and I consider myself a self-starter. However, I work closely with Danté McSharry because our jobs overlap, and I also work closely with an editor named Michael. Finally, I coordinate frequently with our Link Building Team.
The first thing I do every day is check organic traffic and Leads. Now with AI, I check those results too. Thankfully, Softworks has provided me with outstanding AI Courses so I can brush up on the cutting-edge AI optimisation of GEO techniques to increase our AI citations.
I also use AI in my everyday work like most people. For example, I use Gemini Pro, Claude Code, and Gemini NotebookLM for different tasks. Danté McSharry who I work closely with has helped me with Gemini NotebookLM, which is an interesting and practical tool.
I also work on Google Ads and LinkedIn and will soon be starting AI Ads. ChatGPT Ads has exciting new opportunities right now. I love doing SEO, but working on Ads is fun too. The important thing is not to overspend your budget! And also watch the Cost Per Lead!
I’ve been working at Softworks for over 1 year and love the team here. Everyone is very helpful and friendly. We work really well together, and we also go out for Team Lunches once a month here in Bray, and there’s even a Social Club with lots of fun activities, including whale watching and mountain biking! In a few months, we will have the Christmas Party when our Sales Team flies in from the USA, Canada, Italy, and the UK, and it’s great to catch up with everyone. The highlight of the Christmas Party for me is exchanging our Secret Santa gifts!
Then, when it’s time to go home, I’m very lucky, as all the traffic is driving the other way. And it’s only a short drive home.
All in all, I’m very lucky, as I love my job and I love working with our team at Softworks.
